Wyandot County Council for Birth Defects

History of the Wyandot County Council for Birth Defects:
The Birth Defects Council was formed in 1985 when it broke away from The March of Dimes so that the money raised in Wyandot County for children with special needs would remain in the county. Around $0.97 for every dollar raised is given back to those in need in Wyandot County.

Applying for Assistance:
Through the Birth Defects Council, families may receive assistance with medication and supplies, adaptive equipment, gas vouchers, prenatal care, camp registration, home modifications, and lodging assistance for hospital stays. To receive assistance, individuals must apply through Wyandot County Public Health. Click here to download an application.

Applications may be turned in at Wyandot County Public Health, 127-A South Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH, 43351. Call with questions at 419-294-3852. Note: While most requests are considered at the bimonthly meetings, some emergency requests can be handled outside of meetings.

Eligibility:
Anyone residing in Wyandot County that has been diagnosed with a birth defect by a health care professional is eligible to receive assistance regardless of age or family income. Those who qualify for the Children With Medical Handicaps are typically approved for assistance.
